WEEK 10...Saying Bye

Week 10
Dear Donna and to all my e-friends
We have to write a summary about what we have learned during this online course, I have been thinking in all the sharing knowledge, the discussions, the reading the questions the answers and it is difficult to summarized it in just a new blog entry, in my opinion every single topic was helpful and it had something new, I learned a lot and also the most important thing I did, it is that I put into practiced what I learned, be able to share  what we have, what we know, what we do it is what it makes the difference, in being just the teacher, or the teacher friend of our students, this online course was usefully in a 100%.
The studied topics like: How to write learning objectives, in the ABCD style (Audience-Behavior-Condition-Degree), Create our own Delicious page, Writing a Lesson Plan, Project-based Learning, WebQuests, and Rubrics, Interactive Classes, Interactive Power Point are just a little example of all the learning achievement.
I will conclude my last blog entry the last one of this great course, congratulating each one of us for our hard work and to our tutor DONNA who has been very patient and supportive.
Thanks to all of you my dear e-friends, hoping one day we can meet, face to face ; )
Warm Greetings from Ecuador

 Week 9 ...  ; )

Week number nine, what a week, finishing the Project, Reading and discussing about Multiples Intelligences was not an easy task, but here we are ending an online course after weeks of work, Unavailable…
The multiple intelligences theory is a model proposed by Howard Gardner, in which the intelligence is not seen as something unitary, which brings together different specific capabilities with different level of generality, but as a set of multiple intelligences, distinct and separate. Gardner defines intelligence as "the ability to solve problems or make products that are valuable in one or more cultures".
In my opinion trying to explain MI is hard, but in classes with our students everything becomes an amazing world.

Tech in advance

It is incredible to know how many technological tools have been created, thanks Jeff we had the opportunity to explore another one such ANVILL (A National Virtual Language Lab), that gives me the idea about why not to create a technological tool by myself?, well this is just an idea but it may be possible and I will try to do it.

On the other hand, to present my task I was surfing about different webs, and I found the WizIQ as a very interesting tool because here you have the opportunity to create your own virtual classes and this is very simple, you just have to surf there and sign up in it, in order to have your own account, so I invite to all of you to go there.

Here I will share with you the simple steps to work in wiziq.

Best regards;

Loly

With a computer or without one?

                                 Week 7
Amazingly we are in the middle of week 7, I cannot believe it, I have learned so many new and useful things that I am sure will beneficing my students, this week readings make me think in how important is to have access to technology, how necessary is to have a computer, and also how sad is the reality of some countries in the world that cannot have this opportunity, even though a good teacher have to work with the materials he/she can have. It would be great that all the school in everywhere and all the kids and teenagers can have their own laptops.
I am not saying with this, that we have to forget the books, or going to the library, or research something in the old books we have at home.

Power in the Presentations in the Classroom

Amazing we are finishing week 6, I had the opportunity to learn a lot of things, of course I used power point slides in class, but now I do have a better idea about the new techniques and how to make a boring, traditional class into a great interactive one, I remembered when my teachers used to present some slides there were full of reading no pictures no animation, and to be honest I was not into it, interactivity was absent at all.

Nowadays everything has changed for good; making slides to teach putting a lot of effort; knowledge and love in them make the classroom in a warmer place to learn and to teach.
I really enjoyed using new techniques such as: Concept test, quick write and trying to elaborate my own game jeopardy, I had a lot of fun doing this, so goal achieved, now that I am a student in this great web skills course I feel the same that my students might feel, Satisfaction and motivation.

PBL Great week 5

Hello my friends:
We are finishing week 5, it is amazing? Isn’t it?  I cannot believe how fast the time runs, it is because when we are learning and enjoying what we are doing.
This week was full of learning experiences, reading about PBL and WEBQUEST had gave me a really clear idea about research projects and how important this is for our students, creating in them the necessity to work by their own, as many participants in this e-course have expressed, project based learning is an approach that immerse the students in real life issues, and because this is the last week of class with my students we are doing a project.
Student’s number: 18, High School, age 12-13 years old, they are going to do a research work about economic situation in their neighborhood, to do that they will be working in groups, and they have to go around their neighborhood and asking some questions about, for example: How many people live in the house? How many people are working? Are all the children in the house studying? These are some of the questions they will do; of course the interviews will be in Spanish but the students will submit a report in one page they will do a summary about what they investigated. I believe that with this project the students will learn about the real economic situation, they will be more conscious about how their parents work to pay their education and they will make an effort to write the summary in English, expressing what they feel.
I would like to share these quotes with you my friends, thinking in the enormous responsibly that we have as teachers.

Let us think of education as the means of developing our greatest abilities, because in each of us there is a private hope and dream which, fulfilled, can be translated into benefit for everyone and greater strength for our nation.
John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA

Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.
Plato (BC 427-BC 347) Greek philosopher.

Planning a Lesson Week 4

Dear Donna and E-Friends

It is amazing! We are finishing week 4 and the most important lesson I have learned this week is: I felt like one of my students, after all the reading, studying, writing, thinking and planning I realized that I had the same feelings that my students might have during the year, they might feel frustration, anxious and nervous, I have had those feelings during this learning process, it is because I am a student too and its feels so great, when you achieve a goal. Learn every day something new make as grow up as humans begins and also in a professional field.

Planning a lesson is an essential tool for teachers and also it is important for our students to have a general idea about what are they going to learn, how fast are they going to learn and what the objectives are, how are they going to be evaluated? These are important aspects that our students need to have clear.

Tech in the classroom

Hey there:
During this process of creating a blog I had a little trouble but finally I did it, so here I am trying to learn more about webskills and how to put into practice with my students, for the next class for sure I will do a blog with my students because I think this it is a great opportunity for them to learn how to use this web tool that will be helpful in their academic development.
